A short tour of Lake Aydat

Can we go around Lake Aydat?, OUI but only on foot or by bike (or on horseback)… The turn of lac decomposes into a natural part, and a village part. The marking follows a small path, a piece of road in Poudure, passage near the’Saint-Sidoine church, the loop then continues on the pontoons of the wetland then ends on the sidewalk in Aydat and Sauteyras. The loop can be done on foot, by stroller* and mountain bike. Magnificent views of Lake Aydat, the Puy de Charmont, Puy de la Rodde, Puy de Dôme, panoramic view of the Chaine des Puys… This route is accessible to families, for occasional hikers, for jogging/jogging… Dogs are allowed on this tour, but must be kept on a leash.

Since it is a loop you can start it from anywhere, leisure base car park, parking lot north of the lake, Lot forest car park… You can also select only part of it and go back and forth, depending on whether you are more of a trail person, or rather tar. You choose.

Course distance : 5/6km

If there are several towers of the lake, little tour, grand tour, the classic loop, the marked route (Lake tour) passes closest to the lake, a distance of 5.7km.

Hiking / Walking time

Allow a little over an hour to walk around the lake on foot., some passages are wide, others narrower, a few stairs and relatively little elevation change. Always bring good shoes, and a cap, some passages are not shaded.

In an all-terrain stroller

If strollers with big wheels will be able to pass, there are some technical passages, especially stairs, slopes, pebbles, roots, mud if it rained. The forest part is done, the tarmac and the sidewalk on the west side of the walk will pose few problems. The complete loop with a cane stroller or a stroller with a small wheel may, however, be more problematic..

If you have a baby carrier, it is an alternative to the stroller that we can only recommend.

The southern part, the part is, the northern part are very rolling, the west part is on a path, two passages are a bit “sport”, one with roots, the other with large stones. These two difficult passages are easier on the descent, for this we advise you in a stroller to go around clockwise. By walking well, with a few quick breaks to rehydrate, count 1 time to go around with the stroller.

By Mountain Bike (VTT)

If cycling around the lake is possible, some passages are not very suitable. be careful, drive at reduced speed because the path is very busy and on many passages visibility is very limited.
